Weight Loss
My name is Greta Cipriani. Today I will talk about weight loss. Simply, weight loss is the reduction of one’s total body mass by losing the body fat, fluids and/or the adipose tissue. Body weight loss can occur through a conscious effort to improve a perceived overweight status or through unintentional means, like if one is sick or stressed.
In order to lose weight, the person needs to spend more calories than he receives with food. That looks simple, but losing weight may be very hard task for some people, and thus the inability to control weight leads to obesity. On the conscious ways of losing weight, some people use diets, fitness gadgets or pills in a rush to instant results. Scientists say that the person has to burn about 3,500 calories in order to lose one pound of fat. Such result may be achieved through our active daily chores.
According to the statistics, the number of overweight Americans is increasing over the past 5 decades. An obese person is one who has a body mass index bigger than 20 or 30. It is important for overweight people to watch their weight, because obesity is associated with dangerous consequences including developing high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke and even cancer. Weight loses do improve the health and should be seriously considered. People should try to lose weight at least by making small changes in their diet.

It is good that we all try to find ways to lose weight. By burning extra 200-500 calories per day, we are on the right track. Therefore, we should avoid food that adds calories, such as Coke, sweets and egg muffins. Instead of consuming unhealthy food and spend leisure time in front of TV people should drink more water, spend more time on walking and do some exercises, for example Yoga.
As more and more people are suffering from obesity nowadays, I hope that the weight loss issues will be emphasized, so that people would know how to deal with this problem. In conclusion, I would like to say that all of us should watch our weight to stay healthy.
