Concert Attendance Report

I was fascinated by the construction and arrangements in the concert hall, the University Symphony Orchestra, with its wonderful acoustics. The visual prominence of the site and the attention of the listeners aroused my senses. I greatly cherish the day because I got an opportunity to listen to a renowned composer.

The concert had many compositions such as the Russians and Ludmilla Overture by Mikhail Glinka (1804-1857), Prelude from L’Arlesienne Suite No.1 by George Bizet (1838-1875), Movement for Orchestra by Vaclav Nelhbel (1919 -1996). Others included the Trumpet Concerto in E-FLAT, Hob, Vlle: 1 by Franz Joseph Hydn (1732-1809), Ecco Ridente in Cielo from II Barbiere di Siviglia by Giochinno Rossini (1792-1868), Martin’s Song from the Tender Land by Aron Copland (1900-1990), the Cello Concerto No. 1, Op.107 by Dimitry Shostakovich (1906-1975, Sorry Her Lot from HMS Pinafore by Arthur Sullivan (1842-1900). However, the opera that I liked so much was Martin’s Song from the Tender Land. The Tender Land is a musical opera that describes a historical farm family in the United States during harvesting season and a period when high school students were graduating. A graduand from high school is Laurie Moss, the voice type is soprano. The other roles in the musical orchestras are played by Martin, and the conductor is John Craine. Grandpa Moss and the conductor being Norman Treigle, Ma Moss, contralto, and the conductor is Jean Handzilk among others. Watching this musical opera, I was able to realize that Copland was enthused to compose it after watching the historic photographs of the Great Depression era and reading James Agee’s book. These pictures were of Walker Evans. The tender land is a musical opera in three acts. It concerns a young girl coming of age. The poet provided the song with evocativeness and orchestral warmness.

I would like to comment that the performance of this musical orchestra was a great work indeed. I was very happy that Martin’s Song from the Tender Land was the final work that was presented during the program. The opera made me a very happy and exited man with a good mood as I was very excited by the performance. Through this music, I was able to understand the reactions that were presented in the program. The music is a melodic, easygoing, folkish vein that Copland easily managed to present to the audience. The opera is presented with a spoken dialogue in the style of the musical stage. I regard it to be one of Copland’s finest productions. The opera constitutes good American singers whose productions are appropriately not operatic. It made me understand the history of American composers who took a re-energized interest in opera during the post-war period but have currently met an unprecedented and a revolutionary wave of awareness from various composers and performers as well.

Generally, I would rate the performance very highly. It made my day quite interesting. I consider this opera to be one of the most interesting on the American stage.
