The Holy Quran
The Holy Quran is an Islamic Book of Guidance. Prophet Muhammad (Sallalahu ‘alahi wa Salaam) received this Holy Book from Allah, through angel Jibreel (Alaihissallam), during the Ramadhan together with three other books Zaboor, Taurat, and Injil. Therefore, the Quran writings are Allah’s words to everybody. The Quran consists of 114 surahs, 6666 verses or ayahs, 30 juz, and 14 sajdahs. Two types of surahs vary depending on the location of revelation, hence the Makki and Madani surahs were revealed in Makkah and Madinah respectively. Surah al-Futah is the first surah, while the last one is called Surah An-Nas. Quran uses Quraishi dialect, and it mentions all the ninety-nine names that Allah possesses. Initially, Quran was in Arabic, but different translations to other main languages enhanced understanding. Quran also has four other names: Quran Majeed, Furqan, Quran Karim, and Quran Sharif.
The history of Quran traces back to the time when Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu ‘alahi wa Salaam) received verses from Allah together with other Sahaba who memorized surahs. Unfortunately, some Sahaba died during the battle. The first Khalifa, Hadrat Abu Bakr Siddiq, collected all the verses and compiled them together forming the Holy Quran. However, after some time, people started reciting Quran in different dialects. For example, Iraq Muslims recited Quran in Kufi, which is quite different from other language dialects. The second Khalifa, however, produced Quran in Qurashi dialect and distributed the new book with a Qaari (a reciter), which is used to date.

Through this Holy Book, Allah commands believers to live a life reflective of the true virtues of Islam. Quran has wise words that cut across all stages of life, and thus, striving to memorize verses shows dedication to the teachings of Islam. It is crucial to say ‘Bismillah-ir-Rahman ir-Rahim’ (meaning “I begin in the name of Allah the most Beneficent and Merciful”) before reading the verses. Caring for Quran is necessary to avoid unforeseen wearing out.
In conclusion, for Islamic people, it is very important always to keep the Holy Quran clean and place it above other books. Respecting the Holy Quran and upholding the virtues of life pleases Allah; therefore, this is crucially imperative.
